So Youngluck is doing a 28 month bid in a federal penitentiary in Oregon for pleading guilty to trafficking coke. And he's got a blog with his art that I update for him. And in talking with him, I can really tell that having an audience counts for a lot - winter is settling in in Oregon and he's mopping decks for 25 cents an hour and every little bit of encouragement helps.
It all lives in /r/youngluck, obviously, and I've found a mild audience for him in /r/reddart. Things usually land like a wet fart in /r/offbeat and /r/pics has proven beyond a reasonable doubt that they really don't give a shit. At the same time, I post a comment in /r/offbeat and the site gets 18,000 pageviews and /r/youngluck gains 200 subscribers.
So I think reddit finds this stuff kind of interesting... but I haven't a clue how to propagate beyond my few meager forays into the above-mentioned subreddits. I'm thinking of maybe doing some self-serve advertising, but beyond that I'm at a loss.
What other subreddits do you think might find this interesting? Youngluck is very much a reddit guy - he insisted that this not even go on his blog, just on imgur. The bigger audience he's got, the better his morale, so I'm open to any thoughts.
I could probably talk him into doing "I'm currently in federal prison, AMA" by remote (top ten questions or whatever) but other than that, I'm stumped.
