Post Body

We've had some great discussions on how there are fewer working class actors these days, and i'd like to hear about the struggles of 'making it' when you don't have money behind you.

What costs are involved in being an actor?

So far I have gathered:

Headshot photography, classes, traveling to auditions, appearance (beauty/fitness) maintenance costs, housing in cities where productions are, appropriate rights to work in various countries.

Can anyone share the rough costs of these? What are some anecdotes regarding the percentage of actors who get financial assistance from parents?

These are things i'm interested in, as i've had an interest in filmmaking, but shelved those aspirations because it's so expensive when it's out of your own pocket (and have no connections, but that's a separate topic).

I'm less versed in the world of music. Is it easier to make music with limited funds? How does touring work in terms of making a living off it? I'm interested whether popular artists come from wealth or average backgrounds.
