How to get farm visitors?

See title. I'm a little over 40 hours into the game and I am loving it! However, I don't believe I've ever had anyone visit my game, even when I leave it on but am away from my computer. No one has signed my guestbook and from what I can tell nothing on my farm changes besides what I do. I don't have any friends playing either. I'm having a lot of fun without others but it would be nice to see other farmers running around!
