Break down and explain your favorite pure evil character

To me it takes a master writer to pull off this task. Why because most people hate these villains at this point. To me pulling off a pure evil character is extremely hard, one because there aren't many examples in history, most have their reasons. Plus anyone can slap on a tragic backstory and boo hoo feel bad for me reason.
So give me an example and explain your favorite pure evil villain, why he just works.
