So I also just finished the first Mistborn books (please don't click this link if your name is Brandon Sanderson)...
Post Body

... and I was bored out of my mind. I picked the book up on /r/fantasy's suggestion and slugged through it to get to the ending. I was very disappointed. Why does everyone like it so much? The characters were flat and characitures besides (foppish nobles and kind-hearted thieves), the plot felt like a Disney movie, and the writing was not that good. (For a book that has all three, see Curse of Chalion by Lois McMaster Bujold or Assassin's Apprentice by Robin Hobb). Honestly, at times I felt like I was watching someone else play a video game. The only thing I can imagine someone liking is the magic system (personally, I'd prefer characters and plot to magic system).

This isn't meant to be an attack on /r/fantasy or Brandon Sanderson, but sometimes it feels like this sub is populated by Sanderson's publicists and family members. This post is meant for other people in my demographic (over 21, reads books in all genres) who are tempted to pick the book up based on the strong praise found in /r/fantasy.

OK, I've said my fill. Now downvote me and let's have another "so I just finished reading The Name of the Wind" post.
