The game: Pick three of your favorite characters and make them 12-14 yr old kids going out trick or treating for the last time. Imagine they are in a small town suburb. What is their costume? What do they do? Who are some of their friends? Do they pull any pranks?

We did this for our most recent podcast episode and it was a lot of fun. Here were my picks:

Jorg Ancrath (Broken Empire Trilogy) – Jorg is a bully from the rich side of town. His dad is a city councilman, and no one seems willing to believe that such a well regarded and powerful man could have such an utter shit for a kid. His home life is rough, its hard to live up to your parents expectations, and when your father is fairly evil that makes it even worse. There was a thing with a dog, and a brother lost way too young, but at the end of the day that doesn’t excuse or explain. Jorg for Halloween this year is setting out to do some tricking, and planning to have the most candy at the end of the night by taking it from all the other kids. He’s dressed as a prince.

Croaker (The Black Company) – He might play some sports, he’s not a bad hitter for the jr. high baseball team, but that’s not what has his passion. No, Croaker writes fan fiction. He’s shown a few friends, who think its kinda weird that he always manages to work in the presence of their really hot history teacher, but overall most folks think its pretty harmless. Croaker and Clay have been friends for years, and are planning to ride their bikes to one of the nicer neighborhoods to get candy. He’s dressed as a one-eyed goblin for Halloween.

Clay Cooper (Kings of the Wild) – Clay is a defensive lineman for their jr. high football team, widely respected, but fairly quiet and reserved. He plays in a garage band with a few friends called Saga, but they haven’t started playing out yet. He’s dressed as Eric Clapton for Halloween. He’s planning on meeting up with his band later that night for a practice.
