Songs in Books
Post Body

I've been listening to audiobooks of late, and am currently on the Lord of the Rings. Rob Inglis, the narrator, actually sings the songs Tolkien puts down and does a good job in my opinion.

Listening to the songs, I'm reminded that I used to skip over any songs or poetry in fantasy books. Listening to Tolkien's songs and poetry, though, I'm regretting that old habit.

Does anyone else skip over songs or poetry in novels? If you do, why did you skip them? For my part, I skipped over them because I always used to think that they added nothing to a story apart from a delay.
