It seems to me that in just about all the fantasy I've watched or read, there's really no point to wearing any armour but plate. Cloth armour? Completely worthless. Mail? Why, it's easy to cut through and can't stop the weakest arrow. Leather armour? Hah! You should have saved your money and bought a nice shirt.
Is there a good reason that anyone can think of why, in this day and age of easily accessible information, armour is still broadly useless in fantasy? And, for that matter, are there any authors who get it right?
