Why do Elves hate Humans?

A common trope in fantasy is for Elves to hold disdain or outright animosity for the "lesser races" especially Dwarves and Humans. While Dwarves and Wlves rivalry is usually par for the course, why the hatred towards humans? Even in settings where the races barely interact as soon as the Elven character looks at a human they treat them as little more than animals.
