I fell in to a rather large Book Tok hole.. Particularly fantasy book tok with the odd spattering of spice recommendations. It's like the algorithm just reached inside my brain.
Basically I am here to make sure my recent exuberant spending on the waterstones website was not a waste..
My 2023 reading list thus far contains
The Shadow of the Gods = John Gwynne Hunger of the Gods - John Gwynne The Poppy War - R F Kuang Babel - R F Kuang The Atlas Six - Olivie Blake The Atlas Paradox - Olivie Blake The sword of Kaigen - M L Wang
After 48hrs I am 24 chapters deep into Shadow of the Gods and God damn... I am incredibly impressed. Every chapter ebbs and flows while building to a literary crescendo that just makes me say "okay one more chapter" EVERY DAMN TIME.
I have no doubt that Hunger of the Gods will provide the same page turning enthusiasm. Which just frightens me more because I've already added John Gwynne's other works to my basket 😅
I plan on starting The Poppy War series next which means I will also invest in the full series in the coming weeks..
But as a long time lurker, first time poster I would love to get some recommendations based on the books above. I love epic world building prose, complicated but relatable protagonists and I'm not opposed to the occasional romance sub plot.
Thanks all! 😁
