Locking timeline and FYP

I have seen a bunch of posts about locking timeline.
I don't post any nsfw content on my timeline (except subscriber posts). Do I lose reach when I have a locked timeline (subscribers and followers lock)? I know that having a (subscribers lock) reduces FYP views in my experience.
And since I don't post any free content why have a timeline locked in first place? Any creators that have tried locking/unlocking?
