Looking for opinions on color (transition to grey)
Post Body

Hey all. Hereā€™s the deal: Iā€™ve been going grey since I was 17. Iā€™m now 37 and probably about 80% grey. I say ā€œprobablyā€ because Iā€™ve been dying my hair since then, so idk for sure. Iā€™ve specifically been dying it with black box dye (I know, I knowā€¦).

The issue is Iā€™m tired of dying it. At this point, the roots are obviously every two to three weeks and theyā€™re so gray that it looks like Iā€™m going bald. Also, my hair quality has tanked bc of the box dye. Due to me using black box dye for YEARS, I know bleaching probably isnā€™t an option. So Iā€™m toying with growing out the grey.

To minimize the ā€œskunkā€ look, Iā€™m considering using semi-permanent fashion colors to grow it out (during the transition). Iā€™m thinking Iā€™ll start with darker colors (blues and purples) until I have enough root to make it look like a light color fading to black. Eventually the plan is to transition to fully grey when it grows out enough for a chop.

What do you guys think of that? Would it look ok? Is the ā€œcolorful rootā€ even still trendy? Lol.

I wish I could, but I make a living off of how I look. Unfortunately I have to pander to the male gaze and not look like a skunk or Iā€™ll lose clients ā˜¹ļø

I forgot to mention that I make a living off of how I look. Unfortunately I canā€™t let the skunk look happen or Iā€™ll lose clients.

Sounds awesome! Thanks for the ideas!

Iā€™ll try that! Honestly, I donā€™t mind dying it every few weeks if the trade off is healthier hair.
