Hey all. Hereās the deal: Iāve been going grey since I was 17. Iām now 37 and probably about 80% grey. I say āprobablyā because Iāve been dying my hair since then, so idk for sure. Iāve specifically been dying it with black box dye (I know, I knowā¦).
The issue is Iām tired of dying it. At this point, the roots are obviously every two to three weeks and theyāre so gray that it looks like Iām going bald. Also, my hair quality has tanked bc of the box dye. Due to me using black box dye for YEARS, I know bleaching probably isnāt an option. So Iām toying with growing out the grey.
To minimize the āskunkā look, Iām considering using semi-permanent fashion colors to grow it out (during the transition). Iām thinking Iāll start with darker colors (blues and purples) until I have enough root to make it look like a light color fading to black. Eventually the plan is to transition to fully grey when it grows out enough for a chop.
What do you guys think of that? Would it look ok? Is the ācolorful rootā even still trendy? Lol.
I forgot to mention that I make a living off of how I look. Unfortunately I canāt let the skunk look happen or Iāll lose clients.
Iāll try that! Honestly, I donāt mind dying it every few weeks if the trade off is healthier hair.
Good to know about the porosity! Thanks!

I wish I could, but I make a living off of how I look. Unfortunately I have to pander to the male gaze and not look like a skunk or Iāll lose clients ā¹ļø
