Fun RDR2 Theory, SPOILERS
Post Body

Just a theory for fun... Spoilers!!

Imagine this... Personally I thought the end to RDR 2 was perfect but it doesn’t hurt to theorise... Now, I saw Arthur turn his head and take a huge last breath as he laid down in front of the sunrise... But I never saw him being buried or confirmed to be dead by anyone other than Charles who claimed he went back and buried him but as far as I recall, Charles wasn’t around and no one told him where his body was. Sooo Charles just stumbled across Arthur’s body on the side of a mountain before the Pinkerton’s did, who were already in pursuit on the mountain just before Arthur died? What IF Arthur was actually captured by the Pinkertons and CHARLES WAS THE RAT?! Bare with me, as it’s quite hard to imagine but in Chapter 6, just before Agent Milton is killed, he states that he picked up Micah just after they got back from “the Caribbean” Guarma in chapter 5, so who was informing the Pinkerton’s before? Who tipped them off about the Blackwater job and all the others? One person that was present was Charles who just like Micah had only been running with the gang for a few months. Also at the end of chapter 4, when you’re sneaking onto the ferry but are blocked off by Pinkerton agents, Charles volunteers to distract them and runs off. So a member of the gang is seen and pursued in the same town that is literally littered with Pinkerton patrols, but isn’t apprehended or shot or killed? Agent Ross is also seen scouting out John Marston’s ranch in the epilogue, who knows the true identity of “Jim Milton” and also spent time on his homestead? Charles Smith. What if he was the Donnie Brasco of the Van Der Linde gang? A conflicted informant who FAKED the death of Arthur Morgan in an act of honour to his friend but to also portray the idea that the law will prevail? He fell too far in and started to consider them as his own family, aiding them on a conflicted journey in honour vs justice? Selling out John to set the wheels in motion to capture Bill, Javier and the main man, Dutch, believing John would be spared, hence why Charles was helping John, it was the first act in using him to track and kill Dutch and Micah, before the events of Red Dead Redemption? Why was he prize fighting in Saint Denis though? Well maybe after all those years, when John is on the run in Strawberry for murder, Charles found out it was him and began doing it as bait to lure John to him instead of seeking him out, knowing that John would seek him out to reconnect. What if RDR 3 is set directly after the events of RDR1 and you are now in control of Sadie Adler, the true, unrivalled member of the formative Van Der Linde gang and Charles set off in the pursuit of her, to place the final nail in the coffin, eventually leading her to meeting Jack and now becomes our new story, helpless widow turned vengeful bounty hunter joins sides with the son of John Marston to take down the true silent antagonist of the story, the primary downfall of the gang... Charles Smith, Pinkerton agent/ex gang member. Boom.
