I've always been writing on and off for as long as I remember. Between 2010 and 2011, I wrote so much that I churned out a 3k word one-shot every other day. Unfortunately, I burned myself out and I didn't get back into writing (even for myself) until 2014 when I found interest in a different fandom. I wrote for a few months, but I felt drained yet again. I wrote again for another fandom in 2016 for roughly a year, then I fell off of it again. Mid-late 2021, I got into another fandom and wrote a few things, but then stopped because I couldn't get the ideas out in a way that satisfied me.
Now, it's mid-2022 and I've lurked long enough in another fandom, so I decided to post something. I wrote whatever was on my mind-- tried to recycle a concept from another fic-- but it came out incredibly muted. The first draft had me questioning who wrote it because it read incredibly foreign to me. The final edit was a little better, but I couldn't shrug off the feeling of it not conveying what I wanted.
I used to read fanfics and get inspired by it, but these days nothing I read is clicking with me. As a casual reader, it's fine because I enjoy what I read, but it's hard when trying to get solid ideas.
I recently noticed that I can come up with a concept and some vague ideas, but nothing takes shape. It feels like I used up all of my brain power in the last fandom.
I want to keep writing, but there's a weird block that I can't seem to overcome. I also noticed the heavy changes in my writing style, which would make sense because I haven't written consistently, but it's a little daunting seeing the shift in a few month's time. What can I do?
