Invoking tropes such as Mundane Luxury, Conditioned to accept horror, and all that good stuff.
Can be one fandom, but crossovers as well, e.g., when one verse is "normal", and the other is a hellworld like W40K, The Promised Neverland (like that one MHAxTPN fic), etc.
(Sadly, in most crossovers, this aspects is just handwaved away in one sentence or doesn't even come up at all).
Basically when one party's everyday is extremely awful compared to the other party's, while actually being commonplace where they're from. (Or they think it is).
Blue and Orange morality can be a factor as well.
