Why do patients still think you'll personally call them after hours, on your own time and spend 10-20 minutes micromanaging benign lab results? do they think they're the only patient you see?
Specialists sure as hell don't do this when they order labs, they have them follow up; I've seen a nephrologist see some guy 5 times in a year just to follow up on stable CKD results (and the patient does this)
Do patients think this is still the 1980s and we got nothing better to do in life?
I do write messages back in the portal detailing overview of their lab results and have them follow up for anything that needs in person discussion/meds, etc.
To be proud of myself, I haven't called a patient for slightly abnormal lab results in over a year (yay fighting back!!!)
With that attitude, you're better off working in McDonald's drive thru versus family medicine. Wow. The lack of empathy. You know medical field comes with a lot of that. Guess what, people are afraid of dying and they don't know what medical results mean. So, they request youelr educated insight to understand. You get paid to provide them medical services, including understanding their own health status. So, it is your job to service them - which, sucks for you, includes explaining results.
