My wife and I are seeking advice on what to do in a potential custody battle between ourselves and my mother-in-law. My spouse and I have a great relationship with our mother-in-law however, my sister-in-law who is 16 years old, has been expressing that she feels neglected and very stressed because of her parents behavior. My mother-in-law has a history of drug abuse and has had multiple CPS visits as well as has had most of her children in the foster system. My mother-in-law has shown improve me with parenting and has been drug-free for the last two years. However, their behavior continues with emotional and verbal abuse, and my mother-in-law tends to alienate her daughter to focus on her husband. that is her father as well. The goal is for my mother-in-law to voluntarily release her parental rights to my spouse and I. So that my little sister-in-law can move in with us. My wife is a stay at home. Mom and I am an active duty service member in Texas. We can most definitely provide a much more happier and stable environment. my sister-in-law wants to see information on emancipation but being that she’s only 16 and doesn’t have much life experience outside of home other than high school and working seasonal jobs. We don’t think it’s appropriate for her to seek emancipation but to rather primary custody of her. What is the process in doing so busy it cost money upfront
