I've just about fully exhausted my first playthrough and I've had a blast. Problem is, I have close to 100 mods on it and there are some broken areas where I CTD as soon as I enter them. Despite that, I've learned to avoid those areas and the occasional random CTD and poor framerate don't bother me because I have so much fun playing my heavily modded game.
My dilemma is that I want to begin a new playthrough where I can start from scratch with vanilla and then very conservatively add a few mods to it. I could do a clean install and remove everything, but I want to save my current game and all of the mods associated with it.
So: how would I go about doing this? I have a very poor understanding of how mods work, and the vast majority of them were installed through Nexus Mod Manager. Is it possible to do a second install of Fallout 4 in a completely different location on my computer and just have two games that run independently of one another with their own mods?
