[New Vegas] Why can't I say to Christine and Elijah that I've been to the Big Empty?

I've been to the Big Empty and played through the entire questline, even found Elijah's diaries and Christine's rifle, but when Christine or Elijah talk about the Big MT, I have to say I have never heard of it. Why's that? Is that just because Dead Money was released before Old World Blues?
