Is pay upfront and asking someone to hold an item risky?

Post Body
I am away visiting family for some time.
I return home on Friday.
There is an item that I really want that is 40$, but I am unable to pick it up until Saturday.
Would it be risky to pay for it now through Apple Pay and have the seller hold it?
I apologize if this is a really dumb question but this item in particular is being sold at an incredibly cheap price for what it is worth.
Thank you all in advance!
