I’m a complete newb, and using a fx3 our company got for shooting talking head YouTube videos. I’m having trouble wrapping my head around when to use nd filters, and when you just change the base iso. I know people say the native iso has the least grain, and that’s when you use nd filters. But is this a universal where you should always be using a base with nd, or in certain cases.
The outcome im trying to decide on is whether to buy nd filters, and if so, which ones.
Slog 3 Cine EI - Only shoot 800 or 12800 ISO
82mm NISI Trucolor variable 1-5 stop ND 6-9 stop addition. Adapt the larger filter to any smaller lenses.
Expose a gray card at 41% IRE outdoors and 55% indoors. When no gray card is available just rock the EV meter at 1.
You’ll be covered in any and all lighting conditions without having to think harder than spinning a filter around. There might be better methods, but this is the leanest and most manageable workflow I’ve found.
