Folks, I noticed this week in tech a lot of the students were unprepared. This isn't dunking on you guys who went to Nevada, more of a compassionate educating moment, so please have the following ready at the tech bay:
- Your SES either printed in color on 11x17 or digital copy (preferred)
- Your impact attenuator test specimen for non-standard impact attenuators
- Your composite test panels, LABELED, and organized in a box
- Data sheets for your adhesives for your IA
- All of this year's rules inquiries that your team submitted, printed, with the resolutions.
My tech section was significantly slower because folks didn't know that you must have all of these items. We are inspecting your frame and want to cross reference your SES. We cannot verify compliance of your IA if your matching test piece is not present.
Other items I noticed:
- Bring zipties in various sizes and tape and wrenches and fasteners. Bring them in a box to tech. Foil tape, gaff tape, etc.
- Be able to quickly remove your nose cover, seat, and firewalls.
- A lot of poorly mounted brake lines. Tie them down.
- Tons of loose jam nuts and improperly installed positively locking nuts. You should be doing a bolt check before taking the car to tech. Spend 5 minutes to save a lot of headache later.
- Stop using your damn pocket knives to cut things. Use the right tool or you'll end up in first aid or the hospital.
- Breathe. Tons of students panicked when I asked them things. A few were really awful to their teammates when they got confused or didn't know how to do something. Chill tf out. You have plenty of time to do tech. There are no static events to run around to this year. Take a second and relax.
