I might be wrong about this; pictures are included below.
I used a few heroes for an expedition last night, and despite having finished and collected the rewards, they still seem to be locked as if still on the expedition.

1. Legendary Shock Trooper Renegade, Epic Dim Mak Mari, and Rare Shock Specialist A.C. all locked at the bottom.
2. Legendary Shock Trooper Renegade, Epic Dim Mak Mari, and Rare Shock Specialist A.C. all showing a hang-glider looking icon for the Air Expedition they were on.
3. List of Expeditions in progress; note that none of them are air missions.
Did I do something stupid or overlook something? Is this a known issue?
I've already tried restarting the game. Not sure what else to try at this point.
