Hi,
I recently had a neurologist tell me thinks I probably have FND (without any tests or anything...) and that it's largely a psychiatric disease she'll refer me to a psychiatrist for. But in looking more into it, I'm not sure if it fits? If y'all are up for it I'd love to share my history and see if anything resonates for you (either in regards to me having FND or having something else).
so when I was 7 I developed an intense fear of my elbow hurting because that meant I'd be getting sick soon. I don't remember what getting sick meant in this context, only that it had a relationship with my elbow hurting.
when I was 8, I woke up in the middle of the night in unbearable leg pain. I started screaming for my parents. My mom says my legs were red, inflamed, and hot to touch. They brought me to the ER, I spent three days there and they never found anything causing my symptoms (no MRI was done, I don't know what tests were actually done cause I was 8) and scared).
over the next 8 months I had to relearn how to walk. I was exhausted all the time. I don't remember much but I do remember my mom being really excited when she found me sitting up to play Barbies.
when I was 10, I was dx'ed with fibromyalgia. I refused to read anything about it, not wanting to acknowledge it's influence on my life. I was apparently part of a research study because it's uncommon for children to be dx'ed.
when I was 8, I started developing neuroses; initially an eating disorder, then by the time I was 10 I was trying to kill myself.
I ended up spending 3 years in and out of mental institutions between 14 and 17.
since that incident at age 8 and following months, I don't remember experiencing a lot of pain. I remember constantly being terrified of the pain I knew was coming though, and I do think this was the root of much of my psychological troubles. I do remember a lot of fatigue.
the fatigue kept on going for years, but no other symptoms.
since then, in my twenties and thirties, I have had isolated incidents (flares?) of greater fatigue, weakness, and sporadic pain.
in the last month, my gallbladder started acting up and following that, extreme leg weakness, arm weakness, tremors, pain that might last an hour or two or up to three days, sometimes weird vision. Other symptoms I can't remember now.
I had the gallbladder out on Fri. Immediately after and for several hours I couldn't move my legs (they did warn me this could happen). Since then, I've been mostly sleeping, still very weak, and definitely hurting from my ribs down (totally not surprising lol).
Anyway, if you read all this and something stood out to you, I'd love to hear. I don't feel that fibromyalgia fits, either, now that I've read more about it. I don't know much about FND but having the neurologist diagnose me right away - it felt like she saw the psych diagnoses (which were wrong, and I tried to tell her that but she ignored me) - that just doesn't feel like a thorough examination of my history.
