I currently work as a contingent worker in one of the largest silicone manufacturing companies. I'm part of the inside sales team and have been there for 2 and 1/2 years now. I've worked on a wide variety of both products and services that the company sells.
I accepted basically an entry-level sales position to get this big name on my resume. My pay isn't great and I don't make any commission at all. However, generally people with my title make commission and some of them upwards of 100k in tech.
The role I'm being recruited for is an Account Executive. I match the job skill requirements and background perfectly. They want to know what my salary expectations are. I'm not sure what to say.
Over on Levels.fyi people send in their paychecks in tech for their website to add it to their salary data that they make public. It's similar to Glassdoor, but the salaries are actually verified. The minimum I saw for an account executive at this company was 86k. Many were making 100-150k .
Prior to this work experience I have a total of five years of software sales experience and seven years of experience as a business owner where I did all the sales and marketing. Before that I did other sales work. All in all about 20 years of sales experience is what I bring to the table.
How do I answer the question, what are my salary expectations? So far, I put down negotiable. Any advice?
