Having only just discovered FIRE, I feel like I really need to focus over the next few years if I'm going to retire early.
I'm (44m) married (43f) with two children (14 & 12). My annual salary is £60k, and my wife is £100k. This is the current position:
(m) 20 years of final salary pension, with additional £90k in a private pension. Private pension contributions of £600 a month (total pension contribution of £900). 20 years will currently get me £15k a year at 60.
(f) pension is £270k, with total contributions of £2.1k a month (including company contributions).
House is owned and valued at £500k. No mortgage.
Investments totalling approx £600k. This is long term investment that we're planning to use in early retirement.
emergency fund of approx £25k.
We both want to retire early (55 is our target age) but don't really know where to focus our savings. At the moment we're using our pensions for any additional savings. Is this the right approach?
Also, what are the benefits of S&S ISA's that I keep reading about. When should I start looking to use this?
Any guidance would be appreciated
