I'm in a relatively lucky position of still being able to buy property in Europe as my partner has an EU passport. Based on all current trends it looks like the UKs economy is going to perform relatively worse than the EU over at least the next decade (obviously very hard to predict with certainty). I'd probably purchase a holiday home with cash in somewhere like Croatia for around £150k. We have family who could help out with running this as a rental. Then would cash out in say 15 years to take advantage of the expected up turn in property market as well as improved strength of the Euro relative to the £. Obviously there will be huge currency transaction fees to consider. Is this a viable option? Are non UK equities just less of a headache achieving the same goal (i.e. shorting the pound)?
