BOSS: Tonberry King (VIII)

Difficulties: 160 (Ultimate ) and 220 (Apocalypse )

Mastery Conditions:

• Win with 4 or more party members alive.
• Reduce Tonberry King' RES.
• Reduce Tonberry King' DEF.

Overview:

• Entirely physical damage here. Leave magic mitigation at home.
• No elemental weaknesses or resistances to exploit here.
• Tonberry King pretty much only has two attacks - Junk and Counter Junk are AoE physicals with 48% chance to apply Sap. It's Sharp! basically deals 9999 or 99999 damage to one person regardless of row.
• It's Sharp! will target the person with the highest % HP.

Tips:

• Last Stand is pretty much mandatory for this fight. You can utilize the likes of instant Curaja from healer BSB's to manipulate the target of It's Sharp!, but as he gets weaker, note that you will want people to be topped off for Counter Junk.
• Don't overload too much on healing and Last Stand - you still need some damage after all!
• He has no elemental weaknesses or resistances, so you can potentially just make your own weakness via Imperil and En-elements.
• Physical Blink works really well here.
• Some great options for characters (not going to list them all, but you get the idea):
  • Penelo USB - instant cast AoE heal with party P Blink and HP stock.
  • Prishe SSB - Lifesiphon-able party heal, Guts and Heavy Regen.
  • Raijin SSB - Lifesiphon-able party Instant Cast 1, Guts, Heavy Regen.
  • Yuna USB - party Raise, Curaga, Hastega, Last Stand
  • Eiko USB - instant cast party Curaga, Hastega, Last Stand
  • Selphie USB - instant cast party Curaga, Last Stand, Heavy Regen
  • Arc SSB2 - Penelo USB without the HP stock.
