So I had a good multiplayer experience in the public room on the Apoc fight, and thought that if I complain about the bad ones I should say something nice about a good one.
It was a mostly standard set up.
Raid leader had Bartz and Onion.
I had Zack and Selphie.
Next guy had Farris and a catgirl.
And finally Alphi and a second catgirl.
At first it took a little bit to get our groove.
I made a mistake when we were taking damage early and didn't trust the bottom catgirl to burst and used a dreamstage to heal and give the nice Mblink.
We crossed paths as she got bubbles up before my dance came up, oh well.
But for the most part it was working well.
Farris was ultraing and onion was breaking.
Alphi was a little strange as he didn't have Tiamat but instead Valefor and the big dragon as summons.
Bartz was smart and used the defense up soul break instead of opening with his burst or overstrike.
The bad part happened when we took some nasty AOE in the weak phase and the bottom catgirl was lagged out on her bubbles and top cat girl may have lost wall and onion bought it.
From there it was want of a nail, and in the very weak phase the healers got slowed and while we had the boss under 10% we just couldn't hold it together.
A wipe but it was well played.
And then the strangest thing happened.
The game over screen didn't appear...
The leader decided to use a mythril!
We got 10% offense up and it started over.
This was very strange as I have never used a mythril in the game except for pulls.
I was totally shocked but I was ready for the rematch!
And the best thing was we trusted each other this time.
We knew what the others could and would do and capitalized on it.
This time when we were hurting early I trusted the bottom catgirl to bubble us and went offensive with my burst so I could dispel.
Sure there were a few minor things but we were now at like 80 to 90% efficiency even though we had just tossed ourselves in a room for casual raiding.
Things got rough when the boss put up the shield and proceeded to do the hp1 thing and followed up by randomly targeting the one guy still at 1 hp with the next attack. In fact he did it twice.
First on Zack and then on Farris.
I thought we were in bad shape when Zack went down since that imperil wind is so nice, but I trusted the others to press on while I tried to heal up.
And it all ended up working and we won in the end and I felt it was a mythril well spent.
So I want to say thanks to those people if they read this, and encourage anyone who is hesitant about multiplayer because of all the bitching we do to try it since there are good stories.
And the good stories are so much better than the bad.
I really think that the different challenges of multiplayer and winning with a suboptimal team is part of what it makes it so fun!
Happy raiding.
