Hey all, so I'm back with another video for the Cid's Mission for the FFX-2 Rikku Dress Record event. I actually beat it with another less flashy team, but forgot to record that one.
Guardian Beast is one tough customer. Luckily there's a few ways to beat him - Tidus BSB is your best bet.
He is weak to five different elements (Fire, Ice, Lightning, Water, and Holy) so go nuts here.
Bring both Protectga/Shellga. Magic Breakdown/Full Break on Wakka is more important than Power Breakdown (give Tidus Power Break though). You'll only need physical mitigation for the first 50% or so of the fight - he tends to use more magical attacks after that.
The newly released Chain Blizzaga is fantastic for this fight. It has a 5.9 x2 potency, which means with weakness it'll hit for 11.8 x2 - that's as strong as a 100% doublecast Flare! My Braska had about 600 MAG without any buffs, and Chain Blizzaga was hitting for 9.7k damage per hit after Full Break was applied. An R2 Chain Blizzaga sufficed for me since the bulk of my damage came from Tidus' Abes' Spirit, so I also gave him Protectga, as I didn't have a shared Protectga/Shellga SB gear.
Braska's SSB is also very fantastic - mine hit for about 7-hits for 4k damage each (which totals 28k damage from just one bar). If I had a shared Protectga/Shellga gear, I'd have brought Meltdown as well - one use is equivalent to 8.1k x3 with ~600 MAG, which is kinda SSB-level damage.
For those who are interested, the other way I beat him was making the following changes:
- Replace Paine for Auron. Auron will run Tauntaliate to protect the party and hit Guardian Beast for about 3k damage a hit (3x physical hits means Auron smacks him back for 9k damage - not too shabby!)
- Braska runs Curaga/Reflect instead. The key here is to cast Reflect on Guardian Beast, and have him Reflect his Counter Haste/Protect on your party instead. Braska can also use the Double Hit RM for additional damage via Retaliate.
That strategy worked quite well, if only because once again, the bulk of my damage came from Abes' Spirit. This is a much slower, but a steadier strategy, since you can run double healers. You can try dropping Curaga on Braska and bringing a 4* elemental summon (Ixion, Alexander, Leviathan) instead, but I would suggest for it to be highly honed (say R4 or R5). If you don't have Tidus' BSB, try running Paine with Saint Cross any of Firaga/Blizzaga/Thundaga/Waterga strikes instead (or you can even try -ga spellblades Snowstorm Flurry, with doublecast Spellblade RM).
