Post Body

First off, I originally did this with this setup. However, I didn't record it the first time around, and so I ended up tweaking around my setup a bit. This is the setup I used for this video.

My recommendation would still be to go with the first setup if possible. Switching Bartz to the front row meant I was hitting harder, and I could swap out his accessory for elemental resistance, but I was taking much heavier damage from Kick, Trueblade of Legend, and Radiance of the 4 Colors.

Video link here.

Advice for a No Wall run:

  • Put as many guys in the back row as possible. Bows help out a lot here, and Faris and Bartz can both equip bows. Two healer setup is also recommended (my Exdeath has a shared AoE Cure SB).
  • For anyone to be on the front row, ensure they have as much DEF as possible - even with 350 DEF, my Bartz was taking 2.9k damage from the initial Kick.
  • If your characters are over the ATK soft cap (after Scream - you only need 393 ATK to cap after Scream), I highly recommend using elemental resistance accessories. Anything that resists Fire/Ice/Thunder is absolutely fantastic (Gigas Armlet), whereas anything that resists at least two of these are also great options (Necrophobe Ward). Ensure your squishiest units do not have less than 5k HP. HP is more important than elemental resistance.
  • This fight has 3 phases. The first phase is the introductory phase - he starts by smashing your entire party's face in using Monk: Kick, or he might play nice and just use a regular attack instead. But most of the time, expect a Monk: Kick or three to the face for the opening three turns.
  • Throughout the fight, Bartz counters physical attacks with Knight: Double Cut (2x physical attack on one target), and counters magic attacks with Blue Magic: Missile (deals 20% of current HP damage to entire party).
  • Throughout Phase 1, he'll also use Spellblade: Firaga Strike, Spellblade: Blizzaga Strike, or Spellblade: Thundaga Strike, which are all 1-hit Fire/Ice/Lightning-elemental single-target attacks respectively.
  • When you've dropped his HP to about 70%, he'll interrupt with Trueblade of Legend. This attack does five powerful single-target hits that hit randomly, then gives Bartz a large DEF buff. Make sure you have an Armor Breakdown ready to go to negate the effect of the DEF buff - it really is quite significant.
  • From this phase on, his Spellblades are upgraded to 4 hits. He also gains access to Dancer: Sword Dance (1-hit physical on all party members) and Ranger: Barrage (4-hits single-target RANGED physical attack on random targets) - this attack seriously hurts, and can be the one thing that messes up this backrow strat I used.
  • When his HP is dropped below 40%, he'll use Radiance of the Four Colors. This attack does six powerful single-target hits that hit randomly, then gives Bartz an ATK/MAG/DEF/RES boost, and gives him Haste. Ensure you have Full Break and Banishing Strike/Dispel ready to go.
  • Same attacks as above, except his attacks are more relentless now, and he is faster. Save bursts for this phase, and burst him down.
  • There's some RNG involved for a No Wall run - namely how unlucky you are with counters (i.e. he counter targets a low HP member, killing them instantly. And it happens to be your healer), or one of the two Kicks procs critical on the first two turns (deadly when starting with very bad ATB on your Protectga user), or Trueblade of Legend/Radiance of the Four Colors' random hits hits one person one too many times (i.e. like seeing your 5k HP healer get hit 4 times for 1.8k each? Yeah...)
