  • Race: Aquatic
  • Vulnerable to all breaks, with no stat passives.
  • Uses only physical damage, most of it being water element
  • Uses ST -700% water imperil. No AoE imperil at all.
  • Has two minion tentacles
  • Will start ejecting units if a tentacle dies
  • Fight is won when head dies

Fight Tips

Octomammoth is a big step down from Catastrophe, having 25% less hp, about 20% less def/spr, and overall just... not really doing anything.

Every attack except one in this fight is water element, and the only imperil is single target (-700% water). The only non-elem attack is a ST physical hit without any accuracy (but does include a DoT). There's a few ways to negate all threat here:

  • Provoke with evasion Kaito (absorbs water). This lets you ignore the imperil, and he should be able to survive the DoT. If not, keep re-raise on him.

  • Provoke with evasion Veritas of the Water (the 4*). Basically same as Kaito, but more budget. She will need re-raise every turn (put her on Phoenix so she can self re-raise each round).

  • 100% water resist on everyone else from either gear or a buff.

That's it, the boss has been shut down entirely.

The Tentacles

There will be two tentacle minions during this fight. They do a bunch of water attacks, which should all be immuned by everyone with 100 water resist, so you can completely ignore them. Just don't kill them!

If a tentacle dies, either from AoE damage, or mistakenly focusing one down, the head will heal and start ejecting random units of yours every single turn, which is going to probably lead to a bad end.

The tentacles are relatively bulky so you won't have to worry about accidentally killing one unless using dedicated AoE damage dealers (they are weaker than the main head).

Just bring single target damage dealers for this fight and ignore the tentacles entirely. They auto-die when the head is killed.

Dealing Damage

The boss has 190% dark resist and 210% wind resist, so pick one of those elements.

Rinoa has the dark imperil field (-30%) while the best dark imperil is Hawkeye at 160% Golbez at 150% (or Return Akstar at 145%)

Elly (the upcoming? NV base) has the wind imperil field (-50%) while the best wind imperil is Zidane at 160% Emperor at 160%

The best wind team can bring the boss to a final resist of 0% (if Elly arrives and you pulled), while the best dark team can bring the boss to a final resist of 10%. I'd overall recommend dark if you also own Warrior Dark Fina for the better party support, but either element should work fine.

Video Examples of the fight from JP

Here's my clear in JP where I used 6 units to do the 15 turn mission:

Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8039LNdc4cw

  • Water Veritas -- provoker with phoenix for re-raise
  • Warrior Dark Fina -- dark/whip support
  • Rinoa -- imperil field capper
  • Hawkeye -- break/imperil capper
  • Tidus -- chainer (whip)
  • friend Tidus -- chainer (whip)

More example clears can be found in the JP Thread
