Early Tips for Cerberus Trial (12-Race: Beast)
Post Body

Next 12-Takedown fight for Global should be Cerberus, the dog from hell that is weak to... fire and dark? Yeah, that makes sense. Anyway, here's tips for our next race trial, Beast:

Fight Tips

Ok so like usual, when there's a challenging trial released, there's an overreaction by the developers and the follow-up trial ends up being a joke. So after Rafflesia, we get this toothless dog as a trial. Not only that, on top of it being easy right out of the gate, the main gimmick of the fight is completely and entirely negated on Global thanks to Esther. Anyway, let's go over the mechanics:

Cerberus's very dangerous... lightning damage?

So during most of the fight your provoker will have a -800% lightning imperil and Cerberus uses a lot of physical lightning attacks and he's a tag chainer so he will be chaining most of his lightning attacks on your tank, leading to high damage. There's also some ST physical DoT's (both non-elem and lightning based).

If you want to completely and totally humiliate this dog, just tank it with Esther who has permanent lightning absorb (use her boots). If you don't own Esther or prefer to not use her to tank, Runda still tanks this totally fine with some Lightning resist equipped. Like I mentioned, easy trial is easy no matter how you approach it.

As for the non-elem physical damage on the tank, you can evade it with a -50% accuracy debuff on the boss, or just bulk up and eat it. Either works fine.

The AoE Magic

During phase one (>50% health) the boss will sometimes do an AoE -200% imperil followed by AoE Fire/Ice/Thunder damage on your party. In phase two (<50% health) this will instead be -400% imperil followed by Fire/Ice/Thunder damage.

You could bring a magic tank to cover these if you really wanted, but even with the imperils coming before damage, these attacks don't hit very hard. With proper mitigations and a good break on the boss, you can mostly ignore these magic attacks and they shouldn't kill anyone.

What DPS to use?

The boss has 210% to fire and ice, and 220% to dark resistance (based on JP version). Like with Rafflesia, using a strong imperil on top of an imperil field will give best results for damage. Here's a few generalized suggestions for starting your team building:

Elem Units
Fire Tsukiko or Lenna to imperil field. Vaan or Olive for big fire imperil w/ breaks.
Ice Fryevia and Mog's field would be a nice combo here.
Dark On GL Dark is probably the worst pick (as of this post date), but Rinoa has the imperil field.

Just a quick example team that should stomp this fight with all missions:

  • Esther -- Tank
  • Tsukiko -- Fire Support / Field / Buffer / Healer (summmon Lakshmi)
  • Chizuru -- Killer Buffer / Tagger
  • Olive -- Breaker / DPS
  • Olive -- Breaker / DPS

You absolutely don't need this level of firepower though.

Video Examples of the fight from JP

Here's my clear in JP where I used 6 units to do the 15 turn mission:

Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wjgaTgZdG8E

  • Runda -- tank / mit
  • Rinoa -- imperil field / healing
  • Hawkeye -- dark imperil / breaker
  • A.Dark Fina -- dark support / amp field
  • new Tidus -- chainer
  • friend new Tidus -- chainer

More example clears can be found in the JP Thread
