The Current Shenmon's AI Is Not Making It Easier and Gives Unfair Advantages to Those Who Capped Before Maintenance
Post Body

As many of you already have noticed, Shenmon's AI has been updated and caused substantial changes to its 50% threshold AI.

  • Before maintenance, 50% threshold attacks caused a party wipe.
  • After maintenance and currently (as of June 3rd), 50% HP threshold attacks do not cause a party wipe but only deals 90% HP damage.

Gumi made an Issue Report which can be found here. First, this issue report is very confusing and to be honest, I cannot confidently say I truly understand what it is saying or referring to. Nonetheless, Gumi is definitely keeping the version of the AI that is dealing less damage because they think it is easier and fairer for this ranked event. By that logic, the current version of Shenmon's AI (as of June 3rd) is the one Gumi plans to keep because it deals less damage and does not cause a party wipe.

However, not causing a party wipe does not equate to the boss being easier to handle. Here are two reasons why:

  1. Before maintenance, the wipe associated with 50% threshold could be simply dealt with an AoE reraise. You simply wasted a turn but after the reraise, your party has a fresh start with no debuffs and continues the fight. After maintenance, the boss sure doesnt wipe your party but instead causes you to start your turn with 10% HP, 80% all stats break, 75% reduced evasion and 90% reduced in healing. With all these debuffs on, it is tremendously more difficult to survive the turn after the threshold as it is almost impossible to heal back your tank to full HP. It is the delayed wipe.
  2. Such change in AI renders many clear guides completely useless or unstable. Many players may not have the luxury of time to really study the boss' AI so they rely on these guides to clear and enjoy the game. Now, they dont have those anymore.

As explained, from technical point of view, the current Shenmon's AI is more difficult. From the resource point of view, players have lesser materials to refer to for their clears now. In what way is that fair for those who attempt the boss now as compared to those who attempted it last week???

I strongly urge Gumi to consider reverting the AI back to the one before maintenance for the true fairness of this event. I believe this is an oversight and could be fixed but may take some time to implement. An extension for the event would be appreciated in that sense.
