Post Body

Edit 3: Fixed damage calculation. Lunafreya's field does not amp her evoke damage. she only has 15% water amp now. Sword imperil stronk.

Edit 2: Lunafreya's amp may or may not amp her evoke lb. I will adjust the damage accordingly once I figure out whether the field amps her damage or not. Bear with me! It won't fundamentally change the results, though.

Edit 1: 20% MAG on each Staff is needed for the build below.

Hey everyone.

Lunafreya is finally here and I’m suuuper excited. I got so excited that I EX 3’d her on the very first day. It did cost me quite some Lapis though, 75k to be specific and all I got was the pity (and one from EX tickets). Tough pill to swallow but here we are. I’m a huge FFXV fan, so it’s totally worth it! Sorry for being late again, this week was super stressful. If you’re interested how stressful it was: Imagine being on edge every single day, going to sleep completely exhausted and not remembering what you’ve done the previous day. That’s what every day has been since last week Saturday for me. I think I need a break from my job lol. Anyway, let’s get to business!

Oracle Maiden Lunafreya Overview

In her Base Form, Oracle Lunafreya is mainly a Light Chainer (CWA frames) but she can do Water, too. Her Water Damage is much lower though as her mod is only 50x with CWA frames. The kit is pretty standard, with everything you wish for. 120% imperil to Light (whenever) and Water (on Grandis, though), a Q-Cast unlock, 300% MAG increase and da CWA Dawn of Purity Light Magic nuke (100x). As a Light Chainer, she is super strong and thus fills a role that neither Terra, nor Faris could. She’s also super useful for the upcoming Genies Trial.

In her Brave Shift, Lunafreya is literally a Water Terra. You want to powerup via Water Blessing Gentiana’s Aid Torrent of Purity. On the second turn, you LB away and she’ll automatically shift back into the Base Form. If you don’t want to LB, you can either chain Light or use Judgement (sic!) of the Fulgarian, which is a 65x mod Lightning Evoke spell that may hit very hard depending on the enemy weakness. It has CWA frames. Funnily enough, Luna has no lightning imperil. Something to behold for Dark Visions resistance tetris: Lunafreya can buff Water resistance by 130% to all allies but you’d be giving up on a potential water imperil (120%). But it might be worth it, if need be and if you got an outside source of water imperil.

TMR/STMR/Chronicle Weapon Evaluation

Lunafreya’s TMR is a Materia with 40% MAG (unconditional) and 50% Esper Stats. Don’t confuse this with Evo Mag/Evo Damage, it’s just esper stats in the same vein as Dream of Fayth and GF Extension. It’s kind of a meh materia slot unless you cannot fill your four materia slots with anything else. Then it might be considered.

Luna’s STMR is a Rod (!) with 178 MAG and 120 SPR which also happens to provide 50% Evoke Damage. While the weapon isn’t that good on herself (see Chronicle weapon), it’s best in Slot for both Terra and Faris in a team that uses Relm.

Lunafreya’s Chronicle Weapon, called Scepter of the Pious, is given to you for free twice on your way to level 10 of the Leviathan Chronicle Battle. At 4, the weapon nets you 202 MAG, 90 SPR, 12 ATK and here it comes: 50% LB, 750 static MAG (1500 in total for 2), 50% Evoke Damage and 50% Esper Stats (see TMR). This is ridiculous and should be on everyone’s bucket list. You get one 4 weapon right out of the gate from just completing all 10 stages. The second weapon may take some time depending on your EP bonus units. It’s worth the hassle though as Lunafreya wants to use both these weapons, there’s no competition otherwise.

Vision Card Evaluation

At 100 MAG for Level 10, Lunafreya’s Vision Card is pretty good on paper. It also provides 60% MAG without any restrictions and 30% EVO MAG (Level 10 passive) for Female Units, which happen to be all current Evokers. It’s a superb Card but not for herself, funnily enough. Her own Vision Card is best used on Faris as she’s struggling with EVO MAG. The card itself is still okay to use on herself but ideally, you want to either use Starlight Elena’s Card or Faris’s Card on Lunafreya once we’re able to run her Chronicle Weapons through itemworld (see Best in Slot gearing down below).

Damage Calculations

Please take a look at this screenshot as it is important to understand where all these numbers are coming from. If you wanna play around with the builder, you can follow this very link and set the equipment to what you got yourself. It’ll also – hopefully – include all the changes I used. The builder may or may not display the MAG correctly for Lunafreya. If you’re seeing that the MAG for Lunafreya is too low, press F12 on your keyboard, go to console and insert this handy code: “builds[0].unit.skills.push({mag:1500})” – without the “”. Close the console. Once you change a single piece of equipment, the builder will automatically add 1500 MAG.

We’re also making the following assumptions in the calculations:

  • 20,000 SPR, 60% passive, 90% break
  • 25% Sword Imperil
  • 60% all resistance, 130% Fire/Wind/Water Imperil
  • 45% Wind Amp (only Faris)
  • 15% Water Amp (only Luna)
  • 15% Fire Amp 25% LB (only Terra)

Here are the results (avg damage done):

EX Level Lunafreya Terra Faris
EX 1 671.801.334 610.029.928 547.577.004
EX 2 739.993.909 681.756.693 623.233.712
EX 3 789.708.827 733.860.120 678.478.320

Or in relative numbers:

EX 1 Lunafreya is 10% stronger than Terra EX 1 and 22.69% stronger than Faris

EX 2 Lunafreya is 8.54% stronger than Terra EX 2 and 18.73% stronger than Faris

EX 3 Lunafreya is 7.61% stronger than Terra EX 3 and 16.39% stronger than Faris

For the different EX-levels only the EX-level was reduced/increased, ceteris paribus. This goes to show how much the 25% sword imperil matters.

How does she fare in the meta?

As can be seen, Lunafreya is quite the step up in damage compared to Terra and for the most part, even Faris. But Faris’s job was never to deal massive amounts of damage but rather amplify everyone else’s damage through her field. From what I’ve seen so far in my anecdotal data, a wind boosted team in DV is better off with Lunafreya than with Faris, leaving Bartz as your only wind amplifier. Lunafreya’s huge plus compared to the other two is that she’s actually useful outside her superb burst damage. Lunafreya pairs quite well with Melo for Dark Visions as both of them are Water dps and Lunafreya’s field amps Melo’s LB.

In conclusion: She’s our number 1 in terms of DPS, not only burst but also sustained. Nobody should be coming even close in either regard. She’s also very easy to gear! You get the best weapons for free, you also get 2 STMRs on top when using Lapis (need 6 pulls on the banner). That way, you’re pretty much set. If you’re missing Duty to the World, you might aswell substitute with her own TMR or Celestia’s TMR. You are pretty much set from the get-go with her!

Should you pull?

Yes. If you skipped Terra and/or Faris and regret everything, do yourself a favour and pull now. There’s not a single unit coming up in the next 2 months (unless we get some GLEX surprises) that will eclipse her. Yes, Sephiroth is coming but he’s a phys type dps so let’s not compare apples to oranges, please. Lunafreya is not only super useful in DV but also for Trials. You can literally crush all upcoming and previous trials with your own and a friend Lunafreya. /u/Sinzar_ already posted a couple of examples of her on his YT and I will also post one video tomorrow of her demolishing a couple of harder trials to showcase her powerlevel (>9000!) at EX 3.

Some closing comments: My good calc friend /u/tzxsean asked me to include a few more calcs regarding what happens when Lunafreya only wears one or none of her chronicle weapons. I wasn’t able to make this in time as it is pretty late and I had no free time this week. I’ll maybe do this tomorrow or he’ll do it himself on the weekend. /u/TomAto314 also did an excellent thread on Lunafreya’s gear if you wanna check it out.

Have a great weekend, best of luck to your pulls and if you got feedback, don’t hesitate to post it in the comments. I’ll gladly check out your suggestions. If I made a mistake, please let me know so I can fix it asap.

Cheers
