Discussion about Alternative Burst Combos
Optimal Rotation by Furcula
- Complete Awakening [Knight Rider] Flaming Edge Blades of Azure Crimson (Od)
- Octostrike Blade (Od) x3
- Azure Crimson Zanetsuken (LB)
- Octostrike Blade (Od) x2 Azure Flame Edge (Od) (CD)
- Octostrike Blade (Od) x3
- Complete Awakening [Knight Rider] Flaming Edge
- Azure Crimson Zanetsuken (LB)
- Octostrike Blade (Od) x2 Azure Flame Edge (Od) (CD)
- Octostrike Blade (Od) x3
- Octostrike Blade (Od) x3
This rotation aims to maximize average damage for a duration of 10 turns. The burst turn happens in turn 4 and relies on either one of the CD skills Azure Flame Edge (Od)&action=edit&redlink=1) or Crimson Frost Edge (Od)&action=edit&redlink=1). It is extremely useful for intermediate to casual players who do not have the best gear and often find themselves clearing the trial in more than 10 turns. However, for veteran players, you may often find your trial bosses way dead even before you complete the full rotation. In the age of Dark Visions during which every turn counts, the presented burst rotation has two main limitations: 1) Soft lock Raedin into fire and ice element and 2) Take 4 turns to show full effect [it matters more for hardcore players who want to push for DV ranking].
Note: I am not saying that the rotation is bad because I myself use this rotation as primer for my trial planning and look forward to the sheet being updated every week. I acknowledge that it is built for a different purpose so it has its limitations for applications in scenarios it is not originally designed for.
Alternative burst combos
- Notable skills
To overcome the limitations of the standard burst combo for better application in DV, the presented combos in this section revolve around 3 main skills/ passives:
- Octostrike Blade (Od)&action=edit&redlink=1) : 54x back-loaded AMoE skill
- War Hero's Swift Attack : 64x one-hit skill that gives caster 150% killers for Undead and Dragon
- Odin's Aid: give Raedin T-cast for 1 turn, 25% physical damage mitigation, 200% ATK and 150% DEF/SPR buffs for 3 turns at the star of the battle or after being revived.
- Combo 1: unboosted turn 1 T-cast Octostrike Blade (Od)&action=edit&redlink=1)
This combo takes advantage of the strong buffs from Odin's Aid to immediately burst on turn 1 with no setup required. The total modifier for this combo sits at 162x. For quick reference, Madam Edel's Descending Gem Strike whose dual-casted modifier is 160x. You can see this strong turn 1 burst across various trials in the damage demonstration videos.
For niche scenario in which your Raedin is killed due to pre-emptive attack, simply raising your Raedin to activate Odin's Aid wont work because the T-cast will wear out at the end of your turn. One very niche strategy to overcome this issue is to do the following: Raise Re-raise Apply DoT. DoT attack kills Raedin at the end of turn. Raedin after being re-raised will have Odin's Aid proc whose full effects last until your next action turn. The demonstration can be seen in my OTKO Shinryu clear [3:40 - 4:49].
- Combo 2: self-cap Octostrike Blade (Od)&action=edit&redlink=1) Octostrike Blade (Od)&action=edit&redlink=1) War Hero's Swift Attack
This combo has 3 main advantages: 1) Higher modifier (172x) than combo 1, 2) Do not soft lock Raedin to Ice or Fire and 3) Higher killer buffs than Flaming Edge or Fractal Edge . Another somewhat of an advantage is that this combo can happen any turn as long as you find a way to fill your Raedin's LB. If you already have a finishing team built around Madam Edel, that team composition works on this combo as well. An example of this combo can be seen from Kefka clear [4:49 - 6:32]
However, the biggest draw back of this combo is that it only works well with a dupe (~83% success rate for manual chaining). This is because the gap between War Hero's Swift Attack and the third hit of first cast of Octostrike Blade (Od)&action=edit&redlink=1) is only 2 frames. When chaining with non-dupe, this will break the chain unless the chaining partner hits exactly 2 frames after Raedin which is almost impossible for manual chaining.
- Combo 3: pseudo-finisher War Hero's Swift Attack Octostrike Blade (Od)&action=edit&redlink=1) Octostrike Blade (Od)&action=edit&redlink=1)
In this combo, Raedin relies on external chaining to cap his War Hero's Swift Attack . In term of modifier, it is the same as combo 2 but it 1) solves the issue of chain breaking in combo 2 for non-dupe and 2) does more damage against Dragon/ Undead than combo 2. Point (2) is demonstrated in FTKO Shinryu clear. For DV, this combo can be considered as a pseudo-finisher combo as Raedin still needs a pair of chainers but also add 16 to the count of hits as compared to 1-5 hits seen in meta finishers. Therefore, combo 3 is the best for DV imo.
I hope you find the presented information useful. Wew, this turned out to be quite a long post.
*Peace out*
