Sol Fan-Art
I present to you my first fan-art. It's a bit of an experiment because it was done only via Illustrator's Gradient Mesh tool. I was trying to aim for an 80s airbrush aesthetic.
Still fixing it a little before I post it on Deviantart but I wanted to give Sol's banner a bit of a send-off.
Might try posting it on Facebook to get some lapis out of Gumi too.
Unit Design Contest Sketches
The Design Contest was my first experience designing in a cartoon-type style. I usually deal with inanimate objects for prints and basic illustrations. So here's the behind the scenes of my entry.
So how I got to this:
Was from this:
Unfortunately, I lost my very early stuff which featured humans that look like gremlins.
Overall it was a bit of a difficult experience trying to cram in alot during those 2 months. I started because I wanted to get some of my ideas onto paper, but it ended up with me wanting to see it through to the end. If I had to give any advice, it would be to focus on iteration. I think I ended up doing at least 30 sketches before I found what I was looking for.
Sprite Experiment
I'm not doing too well in the fb voting (I'm behind Kaktriria and Ninigi & Omimi by 300-ish votes). So I decided to sprite my entry myself for fun because sometimes you have to do things yourself.
Been inspired by the Seiken Densetsu 3 aesthetic. I kinda wish I had attempted this earlier because having to compress someone into a 60x60 pixel canvas is a nice design challenge. It forces you to make alot of edits you wouldn't normally do.
Might try to be ambitious and do an entire sprite-sheet.
