Was just going to start something in the help/discuss thread, but figured what the hell. Flames, agreement, we'll see!
So, a question – would you be as mad about latent abilities if, say, the 1 were as good as the JP SBB abilities, and the 2 were buffed even better to justify the much higher cost? Hell, they could even make the 2 cost MORE.
Hear me out.
I think I (and maybe others?) would mind this a lot less. Seems like it would justify the grind/slow drip that EP creates by making the results more worthwhile and harder to compare with JP (and arguably with the potential to be BETTER than JP), and you could still afford to 1 buff most everyone whenever their relevant SBB comes around because 1 is so cheap compared to 2 even now.
I've enhanced Nichol most of the way and that's about it. For him, say, maybe Unstoppable Stance II lasts four turns instead of three, but costs, I dunno, 15k – effectively permanent 50% mitigation, which is super worthwhile and maybe lets you skip a tank for some things – but much harder to achieve. (I'm sure we can argue the cost & effects one way or another, but you get the idea). Similar with regards to his stat buff, allow them all to go up to 40%-50% or something if you decide you want to put the points into that.
We're mad right now because because we have to overpay for what JP got for much less hassle – it feels like we're working harder for the same thing, and we're missing out if we don't grind on something that we could have gotten for free(ish, SBB) in the JP system. If they're not going to do a complete overhaul and fix the hassle of working harder, which a lot of us would like or prefer, maybe they can at least focus on making the end result more worthwhile instead.
Plus, it feels like people could then focus more on the units they like rather than worrying about throwing them away for the next thing, if every unit can have "something" OP about them if you just dedicate your grind to that unit.
(And of course there's similar/related arguments, like making SBB unlock directly like it did in JP – and then allowing latent awakening to further enhance those abilities as described above, etc, which would work just as fine).
TL;DR : let EP make 1/ 2 SBB abilities even stronger than JP, at the cost of being much more expensive, and then either unlock the SBB abilities automatically when you beat the relevant SBB, or make the tier-0 basic unlocks equivalent to JP's abilities so they're at least cheap to unlock what JP got without EP. Or hell, do both
Boom, the EP trickle/grind has a purpose, Gumi wins – people can power up their favorites without skimping on other units, players win.
