The best unit Global will never* get.

Clickbait title yes, but I feel a lot of people are missing a key point when discussing GL content so today I'm going to tell you about the best unit that Global will never* get, Santa Roselia. Not the 4 star global unit, the 5 star JP unit released near Hyoh. Let's break down what makes her good, shall we?

Before we begin I've played GL since launch (Rank 160) and JP since the Gatherers banner (Rank 209). I pop up once per year, drop a giant text post then go back into hibernation. My "claim to fame" was that I was one of the first people talking about MAG Fryevia on release and ran the numbers showing that she blew Orlandeau out of the water. Nothing to brag about since there were others pushing it harder but if anyone cares (you don't) I was one of them.

First, the TM and STMR.


Trust Master Reward:

[Materia] Auto-Cast "ใƒชใ‚ธใ‚งใƒ(่ฆ‡่€…ใฎ้—˜ๆฐ—็”จ)" (ST ~1800 HP Heal w/ 1x Mod per Turn) & Recover 10% MP per Turn & 20% HP/ 30% SPR

Her TM is kinda like the love child of Thirst for Survival and Pure White Blessing, but slightly worse. It's missing 10% HP from Thirst and missing the 2LB fill from PWB but it still gives 20% HP, 30% SPR, 10% MP per turn, and a decent regen. Really good, you can stick one of these on most units and they'll love it. The regen gets overwritten by stronger regens (Hmm, spoilers ahead?) and after a certain point you have too much MP (Unless we get Hasiko Reborn?) so situationally you might want to run Thirst for Survival or something better like A.Rain's TM instead.


STMR:

[Light Shield] 45 DEF 94 SPR 65% Ice/Light Resist Skills: 30% MP

Her STMR is also really good for a light shield. Good flat stats, a boatload of elemental resist, and some MP to top it off. Wish it had HP instead but that would be way too good.


Now onto what she does, and why she STILL has a spot in my party for almost everything.

Limit Break 26 Cost: AoE ~5840/8160 HP Heal w/ 30x Mod split over 3 Turns & AoE ~121/150 MP Heal w/ 0.2x Mod split over 3 Turns & 3 Turn AoE 100% All Ailments Resist & AoE 3 Turn 100% ATK/Charm/DEF/MAG/SPR Debuff Resist Forget all that math, here's the results. With a Limit Break focused build (Ignorance, Prodigy Goggles, Invigorator, etc... it's 10K health and 150 MP per turn. For 3 turns. Cast it and forget about doing any healing for the next few turns. Maybe top off your tank but for everyone else it's a 100% heal and almost all the MP they could need. Of course if you gear for SPR it's higher. And, you know, complete immunity to everything except stop and death is nice as well. Doesn't heal them, just immunity. I don't have to tell you how many times I clicked on a trial megathread only to be greeted with /u/Rozaliin saying "Here's my Santa Roselia with LB build" (big kudos). For over half a year that was 99% of content. It's so good if she literally didn't have anything else I would still debate using her for just that. But wait, there's more!
Generic White Mage stuff Full raise, reraise, curaja, dispelga, esunaga, etc... It's the basic kit, what do you expect. Dual white magic is also in her kit and she gets triple white with enhancements.
Interesting White Mage stuff White magic AoE remove breaks (dual/triple castable of course) If you got broken before getting her LB up, just remove them! After you cast your LB you'll have time to spare.
Gift: HP & Gift: MP Counter Phys/Mag attacks with AoE HP/MP regen HP regen gets overwritten with LB regen but they're still there for shenanigans. Don't think I've ever been saved by this but it's nice to have.
Wall of Deliverance AoE 3 Turn 80% DEF/SPR & AoE 3 Turn 100% Stat Debuff Resist Buff is OK but the prize is stat debuff resist if you need it. Don't need to talk too much about this, you all know how valuable that is.
Holy Night Vow and TM passive Passive 100% resist to all ailments and Charm Looping those two together but she gets a full ribbon with added charm resist. Stop is a problem and instant death but everything else gets nulled.
Holy Revival (Available Turn 1) 6 Turn Cooldown: AoE 3 Turn Auto-Revive with 80% HP & AoE ~4500 HP Heal w/ 25x Mod split over 3 Turns & AoE ~130 MP Heal w/ 0.1x Mod split over 3 Turns She gets auto-revive too? Yeah buddy. Medium length cooldown but it's strong. Regen is a mini version of LB regen. Gets enhanced later to give a stronger regen.
Reflective Veil (Available Turn 1) 5 Turn Cooldown: AoE 3 Turn 100% Ice/Light Resist I cheesed Asura with this. Obviously really strong but not 100% uptime.
Patronus Guard (Available Turn 1) 3 Turn Cooldown: AoE 1 Turn 120% DEF/SPR & AoE 1 Turn 20% Mag. Damage Reduction 1 turn duration makes this not as good but it's there for emergency situations. Really not as useful as you might expect.
Fallen Star (Available Turn 1) 4 Turn Cooldown: AoE 1 Turn -100% Ice/Light Resist & AoE 1 Turn -65% DEF/SPR Debuff Because of how debuffs work you can actually utilize this for two turns, which makes it way more useful than you might think. If a boss is immune to ATK/MAG debuffs then just forget your breaker, 65% is good enough for your kill turn especially if you can take advantage of the imperil too. Slot efficiency is worth leaving your 74% breaks at home.

She also has some more stuff but I went over the biggest parts here.

To sum it up she's a healer that has 2/3 free turns and a heck of a lot of really good stuff to do in those turns. She does just about everything as a jack of all trades healer that can suit whatever situation you throw at her. She watched the rise and fall of countless meta of the month units while sitting there churning out godlike LB heals.

Cure all status ailments to all allies. Heal (8160 HP, 30x) split over 3 turns to all allies. Refresh (150 MP, 0.2x) split over 3 turns to all allies. Increase ATK/DEF/MAG/SPR break resistance (100%) for 3 turns to all allies. Increase resistance to charm (100%) for 3 turns to all allies. Depends what you need. Roselia has status resist but does not cure. Myra cures but doesn't give immunity. Note that Roselia's costs 26 while Myra's costs 36.
Dispelga, Esunaga, Curaja, Full life, Reraise Esunaga, Curaja, Full life (Ability, not WM), Reraise Myra is missing Dispelga which is big but can be covered elsewhere.
Debranaga, Defaithnaga, Depronaga, Deshellnaga Debranaga, Defaithnaga, Depronaga, Deshellnaga Corporate wants you to find the difference between these two skillsets. They're the same skillset.
AoE ~1800 HP Heal w/ 9x Mod & AoE ~3500 HP Heal w/ 10x Mod split over 3 Turns Heal (1800 HP, 9x) to all allies Heal (2600 HP, 10x) split over 3 turns to all allies Roselia by a hair but this isn't a skill you'll be using a ton. Didn't even mention it above.
Gift: HP and Gift: MP (see above) Sing along & Dance along Myra's by far. Flat healing doesn't get overwritten by regen, as well as a higher proc chance (50% vs. 40%)
AoE 3 Turn 80% DEF/SPR & AoE 3 Turn 100% Stat Debuff Resist Increase resistance to sleep, silence, confuse, and petrify (100%) for 5 turns to all allies. Increase DEF/SPR break resistance (100%) for 5 turns to all allies. Increase resistance to charm (100%) for 5 turns to all allies Myra has the ATK/MAG resist part on another skill and this partially makes up for the LB having no ailment resist. Roselia's buff wasn't big enough to make a difference, Myra's is better.
(Available Turn 1) 6 Turn Cooldown: AoE 3 Turn Auto-Revive with 80% HP & AoE ~4500 HP Heal w/ 25x Mod split over 3 Turns & AoE ~130 MP Heal w/ 0.1x Mod split over 3 Turns [6 turns cooldown, available on turn 1] Auto-revive (80% HP) for 3 turns to all allies. Heal (3000 HP, 10x) split over 3 turns to all allies. Refresh (130 MP, 0.1x) split over 3 turns to all allies. The regen gets overwritten anyway, it's basically the same! Take off a bit for Myra because it's worse before you get your LB running but that's it.

Damage Reduction [5 turns cooldown, available on turn 5] Increase fire and light resistance (100%) for 2 turns to all allies. Mitigate damage taken (20%) for 2 turns to all allies. Increase resistance to all status ailments (100%) for 3 turns to all allies. Increase resistance to charm (100%) for 3 turns to all allies. Moving past the fact that Myra's is kinda like two CD abilities jammed into one I'd take Roselia's because it's available turn 1 and it's less weird.
(Available Turn 1) 4 Turn Cooldown: AoE 1 Turn -100% Ice/Light Resist & AoE 1 Turn -65% DEF/SPR Debuff [5 turns cooldown, available on turn 1] Decrease DEF/SPR (65%) for 1 turn to all enemies. Decrease fire and light resistance (100%) for 1 turn to all enemies. Heal (4000 HP, 25x) split over 3 turns to all allies. Basically just swap Ice for Fire and it's mostly the same. One turn more on the CD (?) isn't really worth the regen but fire is MUCH more common than ice (Sorry Kurasame). It's a toss up but both work just fine with Akstar who can imbue both fire and ice.

Now for the differences. First what S. Roselia has that Myra doesn't

  • Dispelga, as stated above.
  • More elemental resist.
  • Purify (Small heal Cure all ailments)
  • Few other minor things.

Here's what Myra has over S. Roselia

  • 30% Charm
  • Reflect
  • Good buffs locked behind a rotation
  • Small HP barrier w/ DR chain
  • ENTRUST! THIS IS BIG!
  • AoE Revive! Also big but not quite as much.
  • Decreased target chance!
  • Dual ability! Roselia just has Dual White.
  • TM/STMR is obviously different. TM competes with Hairpin of Purity depending on what you need more and STMR is kinda underwhelming when compared to Ayaka etc...

So as a TL;DR, Global actually got Santa Roselia which I've wanted more than anything in the world, and likely got a better version at that!

I guess now the best unit Global will never* get is... Gabranth?
