For those in the West, CNY is kind of like the Xmas holidays for Sino/Chinese cultures, so there's generally some time off for all the hard work they've done. The number 8 is also often considered a lucky number, as it shares a pronounciation "fa" with the character for prosperity.
I have no idea what's happening over at Gumi though, but last week they stuff a bunch of bundles in throughout the week. Most of it was relatively boring. This week though, the Lucky Lunar New Year bundle isn't too bad actually, although would it kill them to change 3888 event currency for 8888 currency?
