Overview

Awakened Rain is one of the best magic cover units (not like there are that many to begin with) he is an equal to Chow. He can deal a good amount of damage while tanking a great deal too. He can off-chain without needing a Pod (although it only a. works with a duplicate of himself) which is perfect… because he can provoke and cover, but that leaves him in a 2 turn rotation.

Build:

Magic Cover and the rarely used [Provoker](http:// ffbeEquip.com/builder.html?server=GL#181e1690-8ce3-11e8-9dc8-37254e72ef87) aaaaand the even more rarely used Damage Build

In his builds he usually uses Carbuncle or Golem unless another esper has the elemental resistances you need, in which case he would use them instead.

Notable Abilities:

  • LB: 36LS for 12.4x 24-hit attack with SPR scaling. The chain frames don’t seem to break, but no chainers other than a dupe with LB.

  • Spectral Field: 30% A-Miti (all damage mitigation) and counters up to 3 times with a 2x SPR attack when an ally is attacked with a physical attack, lasts 1 turn. As a magic tank, he won’t be damaged by physical attacks so he will counter when the provoker is hit. It is a decent move to use and can help a bit with the damage and LS/ES gained.

  • Standout: 2 turn Provoke with 30% A-miti. This mitigation isn’t as high as all the other vokers and the turns in effect are shorter, but this is still a choice. This skill actually opens up some damage dealing and chaining versatility on ARain with weird comps.

  • Rising Ray: 10-hit chain with 3.6x SPR scaling. It can be DWd. It isn’t what he is made for but it is usable for unitslot efficiency.

  • Magical Distraction: A very good debuff for a very long time but only to 1 stat, MAG. 60% MAG break for 5 turns would help him survive attacks with more ease.

  • Complete Focus: 200% SPR buff to caster for 2 turns and unlocks Unleashed Focus. Very huge buff but it is only for self and stays for a very short time (if it were 3 turns it would’ve been a regular part of his rotation but now, it isn’t a staple.

  • Unleashed Focus: 10x SPR mod 1-hitter, a great finisher in SPR damage team comps but sadly, it only works every other turn.

  • Energy Wall: Magical cover with 50-70% C-miti (cover mitigation) for 3 turns. This is his main move.

  • Complete Awakening: It is a 200% all stats up for self, 30% A-miti and HP/MP regen all for 3 turns, costing 36LS. He probably wouldn’t need to use this if he is going to have a chain partner, otherwise, this would be a decent ability to use.

  • Raise: Decent magic that can be used in a pinch if some problem happens.

  • Passives: 110% DEF/SPR when equipped with heavy or light armor (lose 30% without) and light or heavy shield (lose 20% without them) and 50% HP/MP and 30% ATK/MAG. 10% Esper stat bonus and immunity to poison, blind and petrify. Innate High Tide and 7 LB to self as a counter. Also, a 50% fire and earth resist. Finally, there is an ST cover passive with 50% mitigation that might be problematic if using him as a voker (it has 30% chance of proc).

Rotation:

Normal: Mag cover > free turn > free turn

Triple ARain

Magical Cover: Mag Cover > Chain

Provoker: Voke > Chain

Finisher: setup > finish (same used with Lila chainers)

Pros:

  • Amazing passives

  • Innate status resistances to petrify and blind

  • Amazing LB choices (actual LB or Awakening)

  • Can break MAG effectively

  • Can off-voke whenever he needs to be the voker

  • Can deal decent damage and possibly chain

  • Can Raise in a pinch

  • Can use Crimson Saber for 30% HP for free

Cons:

  • Can’t break offensively and ATK like Basch

  • Can’t heal well, full-life, esunaga , etc. nor self-reraise like Chow

  • Can’t use robes and staves, losing out on some SPR he could’ve gotten

Calculations and Comparison:

Check this table or this table for comparisons of ur own…

His tankiness depends on his rotation but can well pass Chow when using his 200% buffs and his own breaks (vs. Basch’s 50% breaks and 35% breaks with Chow)

TL;DR:

Awakened Rain is a versatile magical cover unit that can chain and provoke and even cap chains. He holds up well in equal lines to the other 5* cover units and surpasses them in some cases.

Future Proof?

Awakened Rain becomes an even better tank with 2 more chains that are elemental and a CD ability of 90% mag T-miti (type mitigation). He also gains stop resistance, more stats and a status resist AoE ability ( stop).
