When 7* was announced, there was a fair bit of panic on this sub. Duplicates required? It's hard enough to get just one rainbow you want! And the initial STMR plan was a complete joke entirely.

But we got used to the idea. It helped a little bit that the STMR requirement was significantly dropped, and after all, we did have many, many, many months until 7* would hit global. That's a lot of time to prepare your 7* army in advance. We'd be getting triple the rainbows over those months than we were used to, too, significantly improving the situation.

It's been about 6 months since the 3% rainbow rate change now in global, and we've all had plenty of time to process the upcoming 7* change. We've also seen a bit about how it's gone in JP. We're older and wiser.

So I'm curious. What are your thoughts and feelings on 7* now, r/FFBE?

I have to say, I'm getting more and more nervous as 7* approaches. I've definitely got a fair number of rainbows since the 3% patch. In the five months of 2018, I've got 20 of them. But not a whole lot of dupes. If it's, say, mid-August when we get 7*, that's another 10 rainbows or so. Another dupe is likely, but the total number is still pretty low.

On the other hand, you don't really need to be all 7* on day 1, especially when they probably won't release every 7* as 7* right away. From what I've gathered, the first trials after 7* were released in Japan were far from balanced assuming a team full of 7*. So that buys us a bit more time. If I get 10 further rainbows from that point? Maybe I'll have a good 7* team by then. Especially if that gives us time to get 1 or 2 UoC units to plug the gaps in our teams.

Another concern I have is keeping the steam going in acquiring new units. JP players, I'm especially interested in your opinion here. Let's take someone like CG Lid or CG Nichol as an example. Saving a bunch to pull one of them isn't that bad, given they're solo rainbows on the banner, but what if I felt like I needed two? Now it's likely a lot bigger investment. And split banners? Ugh.

I'm not sure I'll be looking forward to banners if I feel like I need to pull two of a given unit to be an upgrade. Limited banners are going to be especially disappointing. In the 6* game of today, lucking into a limited banner rainbow was typically pretty cool. But if I have to pull two A2s or two 2Bs in a hypothetical future Nier rerun in order to get a dps that competes with my existing 7* dps, then I feel like I wouldn't even be interested in bothering. Not just because the odds of pulling a usable unit are significantly tiny, but also because I need to save extra much to have a chance of getting a pair of rainbows on the rare banner I'd want to dump a ton of resources into.

In short I feel like it's just going to be... fewer. Fewer units I can use, fewer units I'll be pulling for, fewer banners I'll be looking forward to.
