Does this game refund MP?

So I'm going through the Zot event and everytime I use Repeat to get Barb to DC Tornado/Aeroja, she casts them and I see them being used at the top, but then the MP gets refunded. My theory is that my team is killing the opponents before her spells actually hit the enemy?
*EDIT: that's not it. Against the Feltortoise, she went from 396 to 348, then up to 368....
Against the lizard she went from 368 to 320 to 396 then down to 368.... what is going on?
