So I've been lucky by getting a few of the 5 star base chainers. With this event not having any one unit being "the best friend unit" I've been seeing them all in my friends list. So I outfitted all five that I have the best I could, and swap them in and out depending on which are available as my friend. Seeing as how the chainers are geared rather differently, attack wise, I've been looking the damage done by Luneth as evidence of how well I can manually (fat thumb) chain.
Orlandeau. While easier to get the "perfect chain", I still found it hard to get both of Luneth's hits to hit for 3mil . The first would would hit for 3, then the second hit would do 1-2. No matter how I did it, I just couldn't get both to do the 3 mil hit. Then it occurred to me, move Luneth. When I moved Luneth to the #2 position, bam, both hits 3 mil, every time.
Onion Knight. Same story as Luneth. Couldn't get both hits to hit for 3 million. After moving Luneth, easy. I don't get the perfect chain, pretty much ever, but Luneth is hitting hard.
2B and Randi. Again, hard to get the perfect chain, but Luneth almost always hits for 3 mil. However, I was hitting 3 mil even when Luneth was in the back row. One thing I've noted, they are both insanely strong in their own right. Whereas OK and Orlandeau I get a total of 6-8 million total damage done, with 2B and Randi I've busted 12 million damage, but usually 9-10.
Tidus. Forget about it. I haven't figured out a way to manually chain with Tidus. I have a hard time getting Luneth to hit 3 mil even once, much less twice.
So, for me, the biggest lesson learned is that, yes, timing is important to chaining, but so is positioning. Have to pay attention to who moves and who doesn't. 2B and Randi both chained fine with Luneth with all three on the back row. Not so much with Orlandeau and OK, who stay in place.
