As the title, I present you, Goofie Galbadians vs. Ruby Dragon xD
Anyhow, this is first and foremost a fun clear. And I first thought of uploading this to the blog, where I posted my other somewhat goofy clear, since I'm a big FFVIII fan an am dedicated to make these lore-appropriate battles lol.
However, I thought maybe new players/others who struggle with this battle can learn a few things/adapt to their strategy.
Gears are in screenshots. And some notes below if you want to rely on some of these strategies (and add more units of course):
Laguna is the provoker here, and between gearing for evasion, sprit to tank Meteor, there was no way to reach 400% fire resist, not with my gears anyhow. So if you are in a similar situation, good old dual cast dispel is always an option. Specifically, he needs to self dispel immediately after the 300 fire imperil, see the wiki chart for turns.
Meteor turn (T4, 10, 16, etc.), gut is an option if you don't go pass t10 and/or seal it, but my Kiros and Ward just didn't have enough power to push the battle. Therefore, we rely on "Celestial Tenacity", the active skills provided by any of the Celestite Diadem of Will gear, as it provides a one-turn 60% general mitigation. This fits the rotation of the boss exactly since the skill has 5T CD and the boss is on a 6T rotation. Again, this gear is NOT needed if you are using more than 2 units... (read: just use Selphie's Wall or free Edea's Astral Barrier).
Kiros and Ward conveniently has high innate dragon killer and a one-use self dragon killer buff. If you have Tidus' or Raegen's STMR, utilize this in the first 5 turns, then just pump as much damage in these turns. In my clear, they did close to 50%HP in 5T thanks to Tidus' STMR and Laguna's crowned breaks, but it then took a legit 20 turns to finish off the boss, just for reference.
It is possible not to rely on Tidus' and Taivas' STMRs. If you're silly like me and/or only have Kiros&Ward as the only damage dealer (in which case, please go UoC some Selphie, she's a tremendous useful unit here and very good for NVAs!), the fight will just take longer. But otherwise, as long as you follow the right rotation (self dispel, Celestial Tenacity for Laguna etc.), Kiros and Ward will never be in danger thanks to their self mitigation on their LB. Or you can use one of his mitigation skills when filling for LBs before the meteor turn.
In my clear, since we don't have external healing, Laguna wears 5* Jake's TMR for self 5000HP heal, and Kiros & Ward wear the talisman for some self 2000HP healing as well. This is not as important on them since they have better mitigation through LBs, but I was trying to be safe. Laguna is also on Carbuncle and some turns, he DC Cure himself and Dipel when his HP is too low before the Meteor.
For reference, my EX1 Laguna with ~2k SPR, 15% dragon mitigation (Dragontouched Cloak ), 30% gen. mitigation (Charlotte's armor) took about 15k-17k damage from the meteor. He has almost 19kHP so he should always survive assume you follow the correct rotation. After clearing it, I just realized 5* Ashe's STMR (Sword of King that provides nethicite effect) also actually has undispellable 25% magic mitigation, so that will probably be better than what I had geared Laguna in battle.Overall, it is a tight fight but as long as you follow the right rotation, this should just be a battle of attrition.
Other than that, I think other people have already shown their clears with useful notes, so I don't think there's anything else to add, but feel free to ask if you have questions.
Anyhow, good luck & enjoy!
