It's been mentioned that there's not as many discussion posts on the FFBE reddit these days (other than negative feedback). Well let's have a discussion about something! Let's talk about the upcoming Dark Visions Abyss, and if it's good, bad, or both.
What is DV Abyss?
The JP version of the game tried out a new game mode called Dark Visions Abyss, which was an exclusive event that only some players could play. During DV#31 in JP (DV#28 for GL), the top 3000 ranked players of that dark visions received an invite ticket in their mailbox, which allowed them to participate in the Dark Visions Abyss event which was held a few weeks later.
For the 3000 players who qualified, the Dark Visions Abyss was basically a specialized Dark Visions, with the same ranking and criteria. There were only two bosses, both tuned to be "final boss" level. The AI of these bosses was a lot more involved than the usual two move sleepwalk of a generic dark visions boss, and they were basically mini-trial fights (but still easy to kill in one burst).
What are the DVA rewards?
All 3000 players who qualified got the following guaranteed (from personal clear milestones):
- 100% STMR moogle
- Dark Matter (forgot how much)
- 1 Master Crown
- 1 Galvanite
- One copy of Phoenix Hyoh, a new NV Base unit Wiki Page
There were also ranking rewards. There were only realistically 4 tiers of reward among the 3000 players, and it just determined what EX level you could get your Phoenix Hyoh to:
- Rank 1-10: EX3 (350 shards)
- Rank 11-500 EX2 (150 to 300 shards)
- Rank 501-2000: EX1 (50 to 100 shards)
- Rank 2001-3000: Ex0 (no shards)
See the JP News for the exact shard breakdown if interested. Note that Phoenix Hyoh will not drop shards in the daily shard dungeon, so there is currently no way to get him to a higher ex level if you didn't get top 10 during DV Abyss. I would assume he will come back in future DV Abyss reruns, but at the current time the event has only been held once.
Thoughts?
With the above info, what are your thoughts on the DV Abyss event and how it's structured. Would you want anything changed when it eventually comes to Global? I'll use this section to add my personal thoughts.
I'm not a fan of locking players out of content. I did qualify for DV Abyss during the JP run, so I got to experience the two bosses myself. They were fun to figure out a team and run because unlike most DV bosses these actually had a fully fleshed out AI. If I were a player stuck on the outside unable to participate in this content, I would have been kind of salty if I'm being honest. I do not see the point of refusing to let players even enter the event and play it if they didn't get one of the 3000 slots in the previous DV.
The rewards are already locked behind rank, so my suggestion when it comes to global would be to keep the ranking rewards of DV Abyss, but don't lock the event itself. Allow everyone to enter and play around with the new bosses, but if you want to keep the rewards locked to only the top 3000 players, that's fine. You don't have to lock fun behind a rank.
As for the unit itself, my opinion is that Phoenix Hyoh isn't a very good unit, so it's mostly just a trophy collectors item. That said, I'd have much preferred him to be a useful unit that is worth putting on your team. Maybe Global can buff him to be relevant? Ok, now I'm really stretching ;-)
What do you think of DV Abyss and what, if anything, would you want changed?
