So long, FFBE! It's been fun.
Post Body

I thought getting NV Elena would make me want to play more. After pulling her, I maxed out her level, stats and the usual stuff. I wanted to at least grind out insignias for her skills but it was just too much for me now. I exit the game without finishing dailies and thought this is it, I'm done with FFBE.

I think I started losing interest when I started playing single player RPGs again, like Tales of Vesperia. I'm also playing FFXIV but only for the story. I noticed how much time I'm spending playing a mobile game.

I understand that FFBE has complicated mechanics compared to other mobile games. Trials will be time consuming because of preparation or even the battles themselves can take longer to finish than expected. And I think this is okay. Challenging content should consume some time to clear. My only real issue is the grind. It has become so tedious. You need to make an effort just to farm. I have to click so many buttons just to clear a stage, go through all the "connecting" screens, and repeat.

Now, I'm probably just whining but I can't help but compare FFBE to the other gacha I'm playing which is Epic 7. In Epic 7, there's an auto-repeat function where it can play a stage you choose and it will clear that stage over and over again until stamina runs out or you reach the auto-repeat limit. Basically, I can let the game farm by itself and check it again after 30 mins to 1 hour to reset the auto-repeat and start farming again. I could play FFXIV while my phone plays by itself. I couldn't do that with FFBE.

Enough of my rambling now. I'll just list down some other reasons why I'm quitting.

  • Powercreep - this probably unavoidable but I think FFBE does not handle it very well. Epic 7 has basically no powercreep unless they increase item level but there's no powercreep in units.
  • Repetitiveness - I feel like all trials are the same but have different skins, same with DV. I guess this could be a gameplay limitation. And of course, we have MK and raid, the most fun contents of the game.
  • Most likely burnt out of the game.
  • My IRL friend has also quit before me.

Well, thanks for reading. I hope those who are still playing are actually having fun with the game. Why play a game when you're not having fun, right?
