I have beat Remake and Rebirth. I am familiar with the original FF7 story. But Cloud's headaches still confuse me, mainly because they use the same green glitchy effect to depict Cloud's mako infused psychosis from the original game (adopting Zack's memories, repressed trauma from Hojo's experiments, etc) as they do with the alt timeline narrative (Zack surviving in an alt timeline in Remake, saving Aerith in an alt timeline of Rebirth) of the Remake series. In Remake Cloud would get headaches showing him Aerith's death with the white materia falling out of her hair and everything, which to me implied repressed knowledge of future events. But the "future" isn't set because they destroyed the arbiters of fate, but I guess some things are supposed to happen no matter what? Like Zack meeting the Shinra platoon that kills him at the Reactor instead of outside Midgar, or Aerith ultimately dying despite Cloud seemingly saving her. At this point my brain is probably just as mush as Cloud's and I need a coherent explanation of the narrative the Remake series is attempting to convey.
