So before I got hired at Amazon I made plans to visit my grandmother with Alzheimer’s. Her husband is her primary caretaker & he’s going out of town and can’t really bring her with him so he asked me to come and watch over her for him. I already bought the plane tickets, the car rental, and all other necessities previous to getting the job. Now, my 3rd week in, they don’t want to give me the time off. I put in for a Leave of Absence, it was denied because I haven’t been an employee long enough. Every time I open a case online it’s closed without any correspondence. I don’t have enough PTO or UPT because I just started. My schedule on AtoZ says i’m off, but that only changed after I submitted the LOA. HR is barely ever physically present at my location. I’m only going to need about 4 days off.. Any suggestions on what I should do..? I’ve called the ERC as well - they’re sending a request to HR & my Manager to give me the days off.
