How does receiving SNAP (in the past but not currently) effect your aid? Specifically your Pell grant amount & EFC
Post Body

Hi folks. So in 2019 & 2020 I received SNAP. I have to print out a paper Student Aid Report and correct it and mail it back in to state that I did receive SNAP, because for some reason it’s not in their records that I did. Right now my EFC is around 4800 and my Pell grant is $1645. Last year I got $3600 in my Pell grant, because I made $5000 less in 2018 than I did in 2019.

But how does receiving SNAP effect your EFC and Pell grant, if at all? It has to, otherwise they wouldn’t ask those questions? They state that answering those questions won’t lower your aid or effect your eligibility for those programs. I make too much money for SNAP right now, so I’m not eligible at the minute, but I was for a while during 2019 & 2020.

I didn’t have to put in asset information because of my income being low enough. (Which is good, because I’ve actually saved a decent amount this year.. but don’t tell fafsa that!)

I could really use a boost to my Pell grant. Last year I had enough in my Pell grant and other state aid to pay all my community college tuition & fees, but if my Pell grant doesn’t go up, it looks like I’ll be taking out several thousand dollars in loans to cover the rest of it.

If anyone can shed some light on this situation that would be fabulous. Thank you for your input!
